For years, the running joke inside the gates at West Bay Club was that a serious dinner meant a serious drive. Old Naples had the restaurants with the reputations. Estero had the golf course, the river, and a lot of chain options at Coconut Point. If you wanted the meal people talked about, you got in the car and drove south.
That assumption is now out of date, and the proof isn't a rumor. It's a lease.
Real Seafood Co. left North Naples. It didn't leave for another Naples address.
Real Seafood Co. spent 20 years in North Naples before closing that location in May 2024. Seven months later, on December 11, 2024, it reopened inside Coconut Point, in the former Bokamper's Sports Bar & Grill space, with an outdoor bar seating around 20 people and patio seating facing the water. That's not a satellite location. That's a restaurant with two decades of Naples brand equity choosing to rebuild its home base in Estero.
General manager Olivier Morame described the early response this way:
"A lot of guests were familiar with us from the Naples location and thrilled and relieved that we finally opened and that they can come in and enjoy some of their favorites that they enjoyed at the Naples location. And, also, a lot of people who live in the area here in Estero, they are very, very happy to have a very good seafood option here."
The new menu kept a few signatures but expanded well beyond the old Naples lineup, and a Gulf black grouper dish with chile crisp butter and crab fried rice has become an early favorite on it.
PJK Neighborhood Chinese picked Estero for its second location, not a third Naples spot
If Real Seafood's move reads as a relocation, PJK Neighborhood Chinese's arrival reads as a deliberate expansion decision. The restaurant built its reputation on Fourth Avenue in Old Naples, one of the most recognized dining streets in the county. When it came time to grow, ownership didn't look for a second Naples storefront. It built out more than 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor seating in the former Blue Water Bistro and Saloon space at Coconut Point, next to Ruth's Chris Steak House.
Founder Jody Goodenough-Fleming framed it as a brand milestone rather than a satellite outpost:
"This second location is a reflection of my personal passion, brought to life through every menu item and design choice. What started as a single restaurant location has grown into a thriving brand, and I am excited to see PJK become a key part of the Paul Fleming Restaurant Group."
Two Naples names, two different reasons for the move, one shared conclusion: Estero was worth building in.
The retail wave says this wasn't a coincidence
A single restaurant relocation could be a landlord deal or a lease expiration. Two, plus a wave of retail investment behind them, starts to look like a market signal.
Coconut Point brought in Nordstrom Rack, which held its grand opening on October 2, 2025, in the 35,000 square foot space that had most recently housed Christmas Tree Shops and, before that, Bed Bath & Beyond. Around the same stretch, SB Bar opened in the former Brass Tap space, Alba Breakfast & Brunch moved into a unit that had cycled through several prior tenants, and Casa Blu, a Mediterranean concept, took over the former Amfora and MidiCi space next to Starbucks.
None of that happens at a shopping center that's treading water. It happens at one where ownership sees enough resident demand to keep filling vacancies with upgrades instead of placeholders. Simon Property Group has also gone in front of the Estero Planning, Zoning and Design Board with plans for a multi-phase exterior refresh, with the first phase expected to begin sometime this year. That's a capital commitment you don't make on a property you expect to coast.
What this actually changes for your week
West Bay Club sits on Williams Road, close enough to Coconut Point that the drive barely qualifies as one. The dining shift means that errand is no longer a compromise trip. It's the destination.
The seasonal calendar around the mall gives you more reasons to make it a habit rather than an occasional stop. In recent seasons Coconut Point has run:
- A Local Roots Farmers Market on the property grounds during the cooler months
- Holiday programming that includes a car and truck show, a late December art weekend, and a holiday arts and crafts festival
- Rotating live entertainment tied to the shopping center's courtyard spaces
None of that requires planning around a 30 minute drive to Fifth Avenue South. It requires walking distance thinking, applied to a part of Estero that used to get treated as a pass-through.
Two different Saturdays, both inside your own gates
The dining shift outside the community is only half the picture. Inside West Bay Club, residents already have a version of this same choice built into the property, and it's worth using more deliberately now that the outside options have caught up.
River Park sits on the Estero River and gives residents a private boat launch, complimentary kayaks and canoes, a fishing pier, and boat storage. In season, a free riverboat shuttle adds another way to get out on the water without hauling your own gear. This is the active version of a West Bay Club Saturday: paddle in the morning, fish in the afternoon, come home sunburned in a good way.
The Beach Club, completed in March 2024 on Little Hickory Island, is the other version. It offers direct Gulf access with a full-service restaurant, valet service, and dedicated beach attendants. This is the version where someone else sets up your chair and takes your lunch order.
Most gated communities in Southwest Florida make you pick a lane: the boating community or the beach club community. West Bay Club residents already had both. What's changed is that the case for staying close to home for a serious meal, once the weakest part of that pitch, has closed. Between Aqua Café for casual farm to table dining, the Golf House dining room for a more polished evening, and the speakeasy-style Signature Bar with live piano, the property covers a lot of ground on its own. Add a 20-year Naples seafood name and an Old Naples original a few minutes up Williams Road, and the geography stops working against you.
Reading the season as a whole
The easy version of this story is "new restaurants opened near West Bay Club." The more useful version is that the direction of culinary gravity in this corridor of Southwest Florida flipped. Naples institutions used to expand within Naples. Now two of them have looked at Estero, at Coconut Point specifically, and decided that's where the next chapter of their brand belongs. Nordstrom Rack and a multi-year mall refresh aren't following the neighborhood. They're following the diners who already live there.
If you're already inside the gates, that means the calculus for a good night out just got simpler.
